Fact Sheets, Media Advisories, and Pitch Letters… Oh My!

Chapter 6 notes from Public Relations Writing and Media Techniques

Fact sheets are one-page background sheets about an event, a product, or even the organization. Fact sheets can also be distributed with news releases and media kits.

Media Advisories also called media alerts are assignments that tell editors about up coming events that they could be interested in to cover for a story.

Rules to Pitch

  1. Brevity (less than a page or a screen)
  2. Sentences should be clean, sharp, and to the point.
  3. Enticing lead

In an e-mail pitch, the subject line is the most important part, if the subject line doesn’t generate interest or curiosity than the receiver will delete it.
